Cyndi Lauper Fans Rush to Defend Singer, 71, After Concert Video Goes Viral for All the Wrong Reasons

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper is set to continue her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour in February. But renewed attention on a concert clip from last year had fans rushing to defend the 71-year-old singer.

On Jan. 10, someone re-posted a clip from a November concert that showed Lauper dancing and singing to her song "The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough" on stage in a silver and black two-piece outfit.

The person who shared the clip wrote alongside it, "WTF happened to Cyndi Lauper?" and it quickly went viral, leading to mixed reactions in the comments.

Some people joined in to criticize Lauper, such as those who wrote, "Whoa. That’s bad. She shouldn’t be performing" and "I’m embarrassed for her 🤦🏻‍♀️."

But many more came to Lauper's defense, pointing to her age and how she shouldn't be expected to look and act the same on stage as she did decades ago.

"Dude, she’s 71 years old. I hope I’m hopping around like that at 71," wrote one fan, as another said, "She got older and there will be no mocking of Cyndi Lauper!! Leave her alone!"

A third chimed in to say, "Mad respect. Years pass for all of us, my friend, and each day of hers made a difference in one of mine since I first heard her iconic voice and words. Time after time."

Others said of the "True Colors" singer, "Nothing. She's a damn goddess. Leave Cyndi alone." and "She’s 71 years old, bro. And icon and legend. Show some respect."

Lauper began her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour last October in Canada, finishing her North American dates by the end of 2024. In February, she will take on the next round of concerts, starting with a show in Scotland on Feb. 8.
