Craig Melvin Reveals Who in His Family Is (Shockingly) Not a Swiftie: 'Under No Circumstances!' (Exclusive)

Craig Melvin had the opportunity to see Taylor Swift's Eras Tour with his Today co-host Savannah Guthrie—but ultimately turned down the experience for a different outing.

Melvin, 45, reflected on missing the record-breaking concert series while exclusively chatting with Parade for the Jan. 17 digital cover story, on which Guthrie, 53, also appears.

"I didn't go to the concert," Melvin explains. "I was open to it. My 10-year-old son [Delano] was like, 'Under no circumstances am I going to a Taylor Swift concert."

After Guthrie jokes that it was "his loss," Melvin—who Guthrie describes as a "Swiftie"—tells Parade that he was happy he was still able to get some quality father-son time with his eldest. (The NBC news anchor also shares daughter Sybil, 8, with wife and fellow broadcaster Lindsay Czarniak.)

"We tried to tell him that," Melvin says. "He was like, 'Dad! Blah, blah, blah.' I wanted to go … we went and played laser tag [instead]."

Melvin, who has been serving as co-anchor on Today's 3rd Hour since 2018, recently took over the show's first two hours after longtime co-host Hoda Kotb's exit earlier this month.

"It takes a certain kind of courage to leave anything when you're at the height of your game," he tells Parade. "And for her to basically step away and say, 'You know what? I'm good. I've done this. Now I want to go conquer something new.' It won't be me."

He jokingly adds, "I'm going to go out the [Al] Roker way. They'll have to wheel me out of this place. They will have to come in with boxes and security and say, 'You're done. You're fired.' That's me."
