Courtney Act's awkward double date with Cassandra Thorburn

Courtney Act is ready to get competitive on Dancing With The Stars this year, but reveals there’s just as many celeb friendships as healthy rivalries between the celebs behind the scenes.

One person the star has developed a great bond with is Karl Stefanovic’s ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn, but the new friendship hasn’t developed without its own hilarious awkwardness.

Courtney has opened up about a misunderstanding between the pair about going on a double date since training for DWTS began.

“Cass and I met at a Qantas function,” Courtney tells Yahoo Lifestyle, explaining their previous encounter was used as a conversation starter when they met for the filming of the show’s promo.

“So I was like, Oh we met at that Qantas thing’,” explains the former UK Celebrity Big Brother winner.

“And then she messaged, [and] she was like, ‘Why don’t your partner and you and my partner and I catch up and have dinner’, and I said, ‘Oh Cass I am single, I do not have a partner’ and she was like, ‘No I meant dance partner’. I was like, Oh right’.”

Cassandra has been in the headlines the past two years since she and former Today host Karl Stefanovic called time on their marriage.

While Karl has gone on to marry Jasmine Yarbrough, Cass is believed to be single.

“I am actually not privy to the whole story because I was living overseas,” reveals Courtney.

One thing the performer is aware of is the buzz around Dancing With The Stars, which is making a comeback in Australia this year on Channel Ten.

“There’s only three sleeps till the first show, which is exciting,” admits the star. “I’ve always wanted to be on Dancing With The Stars.

“Obviously I am a performer and been on stage so in that respect it’s kind of similar,” Courtney explains, but insists it’s definitely still a new experience and it’s time to do what it takes to win the trophy.

Dancing With The Stars premieres on Monday night at 7:30pm on Channel Ten.
