Karl Stefanovic dumped from Today show

Just hours after it was confirmed Peter Stefanovic is set to leave Channel Nine after 15 years, it’s now been revealed that his brother, Karl Stefanovic, is following him out the door.

The 44-year-old Today show host, who is currently on his honeymoon in Aspen, after marrying Jasmine Yarbrough in Mexico last week, has been with the station for the past 14 years.

Stefanovic has been weathering media criticism since leaving his wife of more than 20 years just two years ago.

“Nine and Karl Stefanovic have agreed it is time for him to step off the Today Show,” news and current affairs director Darren Wick said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Karl remains on contract with the network and will continue to host This Time Next Year which records in February.”

“An announcement on the new line up and format of the Today Show will be made in the coming weeks,” Karl Stefanovic said in a statement.

“For the last 14 years I’ve co-hosted the best show on television. I can’t thank Nine enough for the opportunity. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be good enough to host this grand show for so long.

“Thanks to our viewers mostly, you are what matters most. It’s been a tough time. Thanks for hanging in there. I look forward to seeing you in another capacity at this great Network soon.”

Karl has been struggling to hold onto his ‘TV King’ crown ever since that Ubergate scandal earlier this year.

New Idea reported a conversation that occurred between him and younger brother Peter in a cab, where he was busted blasting his co-host Georgie Gardner.

The future of several of the network’s other high profile breakfast TV talent remains unknown.

Sources told The Daily Telegraph that Peter’s departure was just the start of a major talent shake-up for the show both on weekdays and the weekend.

Peter, who is married to Nine news presenter, Sylvia Jeffreys, was most recently fronting Weekend Today and some 60 Minutes segments.

“Peter has decided to explore new opportunities and is looking forward to spending weekends with his wife,” read a statement from a Channel Nine representative.

“He has been a respected member of the Nine News team and Weekend Today, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

While Peter most recently hosted Weekend Today alongside Allison Langdon, his wife Sylvia Jeffreys has been the Today newsreader during the week, joining her brother-in-law Karl for the popular breakfast TV show.
