Costco's New 'Dangerously' Delicious Drink Has Shoppers Praying It Hits Their Location Now
These days, Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand has reached a point of pride amongst the retailer's dedicated customer base. The popular in-house brand is responsible for some of warehouses most sought after items, including fan-favorite bakery finds, pantry staples, household essentials and so much more. But where the Kirkland brand really hits the mark is in its selection of wines, beers and liquors.
If you already partake in Costco’s variety of alcoholic beverages, you may have heard of the Kirkland Signature Vintage Ale. This bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout has been making its rounds online as of late, and those who enjoy a dark chocolate malt with milled oats and Dutch cocoa in its mash should be pleasantly surprised by its taste.
Bottled this year and sold in stores for $9.99 per 22-ounce bottle, Kirkland Signature Vintage Ale sports a 12-percent ABV paired with a “well balanced” sip. According to the author of a post shared to the Costco subreddit about the new ale offering, this specific imperial stout is “dangerously easy to drink.”

After the fermentation process, Kirkland Vintage Ale is aged for nine months in barrels that were last used for bourbon. Once bottled, the taste of barrel-aged beers can change over time, improving in flavor immensely, sometimes sitting for up to a year before being distributed. Ultimately, bottle aging gives the flavors a chance to develop further as the beer’s proteins break down over time.
What makes this ale so good is not just the process by which it is created. As it turns out, it is brewed by none other than one of Oregon’s premiere beer makers: Deschutes Brewery. The product's packaging boasts the Deschutes name, which definitely adds a level of legitimacy to the beer. Deschutes Brewery is certainly blazing a trail of its own, as Costco does not normally advertise the real companies behind the bulk retailer's alcohol offerings.
If you get your hands on a bottle, keep in mind that the best way to store a stout is to keep it upright. The aging process can lead to a sediment buildup that, while not harmful, is made up of yeast and proteins. In order to ensure the best taste out of each sip, storing the bottle upright will cause this sediment to sink to the bottom of the bottle rather than flow directly into your glass. Otherwise, a stout is best served at around 55°F, as a colder temperature will get in the way of your enjoyment of its natural aromas and flavors. Enjoy and drink responsibly.
