These days, new soda launches rarely catch us off guard. Sure, it's fun to see Coca-Cola experimenting with a fizzy orange flavor and Dr Pepper getting a dark dose of blackberry, but really, it feels like just another day in the food news cycle.
But, one soda twist we never expected? The return of a dearly departed ‘80s favorite: Slice Soda.
Originally introduced in 1984 as PepsiCo’s answer to Sprite, Slice offered something more than a lemon-lime soda copycat. It stood out for one key reason: real fruit juice. If “We got the juice” rings a bell, you know exactly what we’re talking about.
Slice’s 10 percent real juice content gave it a “healthier” image and a variety of unique flavors, including orange, strawberry, pineapple, fruit punch, and grape. It was a household favorite for years, but by the mid-2000s, it had disappeared from stores, leaving fans to believe it was gone for good.
That is until it was recently spotted on shelves again.
New Slice Soda Now Sold at Costco
The beverage born to “healthify” the ‘80s soda market is back again—with the same goal. But this time, joining the wave of alternative sodas, Slice has reemerged with a modern, wellness-focused formula.
Surprisingly, PepsiCo has nothing to do with the long-awaited revival. Instead, Slice 2.0 belongs to SujaLife, a company with a fresh vision for the vintage pop.
Gone are the days when Slice’s health claims started and ended at “10% fruit juice.” The new version is packed with prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics, and just five grams of sugar (or less), making it more of a gut-friendly treat than a nostalgic sugar bomb. The functional, fizzy drink is designed to do good, not just taste good—and fans are here for it.
So far, only Slice Orange and Lemon Lime Soda have been spotted on shelves, but that’s still enough to send members sprinting to the superstore. “I need!!” said one fan. “Can’t wait to stock my fridge with this!” added another.
Lifelong fans of the drink have reported it tastes "just like [they] remember it." But, even if you weren’t around for the original era of Slice, you’ll likely appreciate it all the same. “I never had Slice before today. Great soda and healthy! I wasn't even born when the brand was popular in the 1980s,” shared one fan.
The eight-pack soda bundle is available now for $12.99 at Costco warehouses in the Southeast and California but will likely be rolling out to more regions soon. “It’s so good and Costco better always carry it!” one fan pleaded.
P.S. As one Costco shopper wisely pointed out, it “goes great with pizza!” So, yes—that’s your sign to grab a hot, cheesy slice from the food court to accompany your Slice on your way out the warehouse door.
