Ciara’s Gray Pinstripe Suit Is a Lesson in Elongated Tailoring

All throughout my life, I’ve witnessed, and engaged in, the ongoing debate over baggy versus tight. I’ve gone through phases where it looked like I was literally about to bust through my clothes, yet at this moment, I’m wearing jeans that could double as a parachute if I jumped out of a plane (do not try at home).
Yesterday, Ciara was spotted looking very business-chic in New York City, her outfit suggesting that the key to tailoring may not be in how fitted or not your garments are, but rather, how long.
The “Goodies” singer was seen rocking a pinstripe suit from Helsa that landed somewhere in the middle, size-wise—not necessarily constricting, but not super voluminous either. The shoulders of her double-breasted blazer were wide and its silhouette gave the singer some room to breathe. Plus, she left it hanging open to reveal a crisp white dress shirt underneath.
But where some drama arrived was with the sleeves of the blazer, which were tailored so that they reached Ciara’s knuckles. Meanwhile, the sleeves of her dress shirt extended even further, almost entirely covering her hands.
As part of the set, Ciara rocked matching high-waisted pants, which also embraced supreme length thanks to their straight legs that stretched to the ground. When she walked, all that could be seen was the tiny point of her black Louboutin heels, which were otherwise engulfed by the cuffs of the pants.
To complete her ensemble, Ciara added a few accessories that winked to the black buttons on her blazer, like her medium-sized leather top-handle bag and a set of oval-shaped glasses from Bottega Veneta, both of which were stark black.
As for glam Ciara’s hair joined the pinstripe party thanks to some bleach blonde skunk stripes that decorated the front of her auburn locks. And to coincide with the theme of the look, the R&B star left her hair down, letting the long, straight strands hang loose.
We’ve already seen designers embrace long silhouettes on the runway—just look at Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2024 menswear collection and Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall Off-Season 2025 womenswear show. And if Ciara’s latest look is any indication, the trend is here to stay.
