Christopher Meloni Puts on a British Accent (and a Colonial Wig!) for Mine Hill Distillery Commercial (Exclusive)

In the campaign, he jokes about how Connecticut is not known for its bourbon and gin, but that Mine Hill Distillery's spirits should change that

Christopher Meloni is trading his (fake) police badge for a bottle.

The Law & Order: Organized Crime star is decked out in colonial garb to join forces with Mine Hill Distillery in a comical campaign.

The two ads focus on the Connecticut distillery’s bourbon and gin, respectively, while playing into the fact that the state is not known for its spirits.

“What’s the first thing you think of when I say bourbon? That’s right. Connecticut,” the actor begins at the start of the clip.

He continues, “Sure, Kentucky is a close second with its Pappy this and Makers that, but it’s Connecticut bourbon you should be thinking of.”

Meloni then appears in a tricorn hat, holding a jar of nutmeg and a historic-looking document and says, “You think it’s all fun and Patriot games here, nutmeg and constitutions. If it weren’t for Connecticut, I’d be talking to you with an English accent right now.”

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” he continues, now with a British accent and dressed in a colonial outfit — including a powdered wig.

The lighthearted commercial continues with Meloni inviting viewers to Connecticut.

A similarly silly video for the spirit company’s gin corresponds with the bourbon commercial. This ad lacks the old-timey outfits of the bourbon video, but includes all the same humor, focusing on Connecticut’s delicious water, white pine and homegrown grains to endorse Mine Hill Distillery’s gin.

“It is the best gin in the state, the best gin in any state, and it’s what you should be drinking, if you can get it,” Meloni concludes the ad.

Meloni tells PEOPLE that Mine Hill Distillery is a "unique historical landmark."

“I was thrilled when they asked me to highlight the superiority of Connecticut craft spirits with a humorous twist,” he adds. “Not many people know that Connecticut invented the hamburger or that it’s the Constitution State, and that without Connecticut we might have lost the Revolutionary War and then we’d all still be speaking with British accents!”

Despite the Connecticut focus, Mine Hill Distillery’s spirits are now available to ship nationwide when ordered online. In addition to gin and bourbon, the distillery also produces amaro, rye and vodka.
