Christopher Landon’s ‘Drop’ Leads Overlook Film Festival’s 2025 First Wave Lineup

Christopher Landon’s new horror film “Drop” and Shudder’s upcoming “Clown in a Cornfield” are among the films announced as part of Overlook Film Festival’s 2025 first wave lineup.

The first wave festival lineup includes 47 films from 10 countries, all set to play from April 3-6 in New Orleans at the Prytania Theatre. Landon will present “Drop” as the opening night selection in-person, while other highly anticipated titles include David Cronenberg’s grief-ridden “The Shrouds,” Babak Anvari’s thriller “Hallow Road” starring Rosamund Pike and R.T. Thorne’s “40 Acres” starring Danielle Deadwyler.

“No matter how many years this festival runs, every time we get to re-open the gates of our spectral summer camp feels like a miracle,” Overlook Film Festival co-founder and executive director Landon Zakheim said in a statement. “For all wayward souls and monster kids who gravitate to the macabre, we have something to satisfy your ghoulish cravings thanks to the brilliance of our artists, the passion of our tireless team, our incredible partners and this beautiful haunted city.”

In addition to bringing new titles to the festival, Overlook will celebrate horror’s history with a 30th anniversary screening of “Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight,” a new 4K restoration of “Re-Animator” and a 100th anniversary screening of 1925’s “The Phantom of the Opera.”

Overlook’s inaugural guest curator, Flying Lotus, will program an additional section dedicated to retro films, including David Lynch’s “Lost Highway,” Neil Marshall’s “The Descent” and Robert Zemeckis’ “Death Becomes Her.” Lotus will also present a special screening of his new film, “Ash,” starring Aaron Paul and Eiza González.

Live events and special presentations this year will include a talkback with “Horns” and “The Fireman” author Joe Hill, the world premiere of the immersive “Spooky Tales with Cowboy Dale” and the U.S. premiere of the psychedelic thriller “The Manikins: A Work in Progress,” among many more.

The Overlook line-up is chosen by co-founders Zakheim and Michael Lerman, programming manager Daniel Crooke, short film programmer Katie Rife and festival director Sheryl Santacruz.
