Chris Hemsworth imposter scams woman out of $20K

If Chris Hemsworth slid into your DMs, no doubt you’d be over the moon.

That’s exactly how one Russian woman felt when she received a message on Twitter from a man claiming to be the Thor actor.

However, little did she know she was about to fall victim to an online hoax and lose a whopping $20,000 in the process.

Contacted by Chris Hemsworth imposter

The 42-year-old was approached by a man on social media posing as the Aussie actor.

“Hey, I am Chris Hemsworth, I am a famous actor from Australia, I live in California. You are so pretty, can we chat?” the imposter’s message reportedly said.

As she was extremely unhappy in her own marriage, the woman told a local newspaper she didn’t question the messages, according to The Serbian Times.

The woman didn’t know who Chris was, so she looked him up online and found him “very attractive”.

Through her research, she found out the 35-year-old actor actually has a wife and three children, but the woman assumed he was just lonely like she was.

“I thought, what if he was in the same situation as I was, that on the face of it we were both married and at the same time very lonely,” she said.

Asked for money

After messaging for two months, the man – or “Chris” – said he wanted to come and see her, but asked her to transfer a large sum of cash to help with travel costs.

Taking out a loan, the woman transferred 980,000 roubles ($20,000) after she was contacted by a second person claiming to be the actor’s lawyer who said Chris was going through “temporary financial difficulties”.

“The lawyer asked her to transfer money and sent her Chris’s driving license as a guarantee of a payback.”

Red flags

The Victorian license she was sent, however, was clearly a fake.

It contained a red carpet photo of the actor and claims that he was born in the year 19834. Upon a simple online search, the woman would have found the stark difference between the fake licence and a legitimate Victoria state licence.

Of course, there are plenty of other holes in the imposter’s story.

Clearly Chris isn’t short for cash, raking in over $43 million last year, according to Forbes.

The beloved Aussie star is also undoubtedly loved-up with his wife Elsa Pataky, and a simple Google search would show they don’t live in Los Angeles anymore, having relocated to Byron Bay in 2015 with their three children – India Rose, six, and four-year-old twins Tristan and Sasha.

We’re still reeling over the fact she didn’t know who the actor was in the first place.
