Chappell Roan's 2025 Grammys look is almost as old as she is.

The 26-year-old pop star (whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) touched down on the Grammys red carpet in a head-turning archival look for her debut at music's biggest night.

Similar to many of her past looks — from her Lady Liberty getup at 2024's Governors Ball to her medieval fashion at the 2024 MTV VMAs — Roan's red carpet ensemble was camp and daring. It was also vintage.

The pop star opted for a 2003 Jean Paul Gaultier dress from the spring/summer couture collection complete with the designs original colorful feather-like hat.

"Also got some long nails, a lot of glam today," she told the Associated Press of her look on the red carpet.

E!'s fashion correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi said on the live red carpet pre-show that Roan's stylist Genesis Webb had this look on her vision board for 10 years and "slept with it in her room because it’s that precious."

She matched her glam to the dress with her signature porcelain-doll like makeup, featuring a blue-and-gold eye and deep cherry lip.

Roan also opened up to the AP about her explosive year, admitting she's having "fun" with her career right now.

She also said she remains focused on rebuilding her community after the devastating Los Angeles fires.

"We lost so much. Like my community was lost," she said. "I take [that] so seriously. But like, the fun of art and drag, I hold on to joy in these times and like, really lift the girls up, because we all lost. It affected us all. Just to be here at like such an iconic Grammys, I feel very honored. Yeah, at a point where it's poignant and really really means a lot for people to donate."

However, it was the promo outfit, crafted by Project Runway alum Gunnar Deatherage. that was the most elaborate.

Following the episode, Deatherage told PEOPLE exclusively that the outfit, which was inspired by burlesque dancers from the 1900s and involved a massive headpiece, was originally designed for the stage. “As we kept building and the look kept evolving and getting cooler and more complex, it was apparent that this look needed to be seen in a more stationary moment," Deatherage explained.

It also had a lot of moving parts, which required a three-member team and almost 20 days worths of work combined. Deatherage — who also designed Roan's swan ensemble for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — and Katie Maimi worked on sewing the bodice and dramatic dragonfly wings jutting out from the hips, while Deatherage’s boyfriend Christopher Minafo created the dramatic headwear. It took the trio around 500 hours to complete.

“I think she is so visionary, and she has made such fun calls on when costumes will have their best moment,” he says of the singer.
