Catherine Deneuve, Hugh Skinner, Melvil Poupaud Among Guests Celebrating Chanel-Backed ‘Marcello Mio’ at Cannes

Catherine Deneuve, Hugh Skinner, Melvil Poupaud and Fabrice Luchini were among the prestigious guests who turned up at the Cannes after-party for Christophe Honoré’s “Marcello Mio” which was supported by Chanel.

Honoré’s third film in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, following “Love Songs” and “Sorry Angel,” “Marcello Mio” has been described in Variety as “a comic change of pace that may be his most commercial and entertaining project to date.”

Besides co-hosting the after-party which was held at Bijou Plage, Chanel took part in the production “Marcello Mio,” designing part of the wardrobe for Catherine Deneuve’s alter-ego character. Chanel designed sixth outfits for the film in collaboration with renowned costume designer Pascaline Chavanne, whose credits include Francois Ozon’s “8 Women” and Leos Carax’s “Annette.” Deneuve is a long-time ambassador for the brand, in particular its iconic Chanel N.5 perfume.

A love letter to cinema, the hyper-meta film tells the story of Chiara (Chiara Mastroianni) whose existential crisis leads her to cross-dress as her father, the legendary Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, in an effort to revive him. “Marcello Mio” gathers a flurry of talent playing their fictionalized selves, including Deneuve who appears as close to her daughter as she’s believed to be in real life, along with Fabrice Luchini, Melvil Poupaud and Benjamin Biolay, as well as Nicole Garcia.

Represented in international markets by MK2 Films, “Marcello Mio” is produced by Les Films Pelleas, the banner behind Justine Triet’s Oscar-winning “Anatomy of a Fall.” The film was just released in France by Ad Vitam on May 22.

On top of the movie’s key cast, the Cannes after-party gathered industry figures and talent including Charlotte Casiraghi, Grégoire Chertok, Alex Beaupain, Rosalie Varda, MK2 Films’ Nathanael Karmitz, producer David Thion (“Anatomy of a Fall”) and Ad Vitam’s Alexandra Henochsberg, among others.
