Ryan Murphy is back on Netflix with the latest edition of his Monsters series, and season 2 dives deep into the case of the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik. But what does the cast look like in real life?
The nine-part series tells the complex case of Lyle and Erik, who killed their parents José and Kitty in the summer of 1989. While the brothers have always maintained that years of abuse was the reason they chose to kill their parents, the prosecution argued they were after their family’s fortune.
Before you totally binge the series, here’s everything to know about the characters, who they’re played by, and what they look like IRL.
Lyle Menendez
Lyle Menendez is the eldest brother of the Menendez brothers and was 21 years old when he killed his parents.
Nicholas Chavez
Lyle is portrayed by 25-year-old Nicholas Chavez. Nicholas is best known for his role as Spencer Cassadine in General Hospital.
Erik Menendez
Erik Menendez is the younger Menendez brother and was just 18 years old when he killed his parents.
Cooper Koch
Erik is played by 28-year-old Cooper Koch. Monsters is Cooper’s biggest role to date, but he’s also known for appearing in Swallowed, A New York Christmas Wedding, and They/Them.
Kitty Menendez
Kitty Menendez was Lyle and Erik’s mother, and José’s wife. She was 47 years old when her sons killed her.
Chloë Sevigny
Kitty is portrayed by the iconic Chloë Sevigny, who you’ll probably best know from American Psycho, Big Love, Zodiac, American Horror Story, and most recently, Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, where she played C.Z. Guest.
José Menendez
José Menendez was Lyle and Erik’s father, and Kitty’s husband. He was a music industry executive and 45 years old at the time of his death.
Javier Bardem
Javier Bardem plays the role of José, and has obvi been on our screens for years, with memorable roles in Skyfall, No Country For Old Men, Being The Ricardos, and Dune among many, many others.
Dominick Dunne
Dominick Dune is the Vanity Fair reporter who covers Lyle and Erik’s trial.
Nathan Lane
Dominick is played by Nathan Lane, who you’ll most recently recognize from his role in Only Murders in the Building. He’s also known for his roles in The Gilded Age, The Producers, The Birdcage, and crucially as the voice of Timon in The Lion King.
Leslie Abramson
Leslie Abramson is a defense attorney who becomes the lead counsel for Erik in his trial.
Ari Graynor
Leslie is played by Ari Graynor, who easily has one of the biggest hair transformations in the series. Ari is best known for her roles in The Sopranos, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Whip It, and many more.
Judalon Smyth
Judalon Smyth is the mistress and ex-patient of Erik’s therapist Dr. Jerome Oziel, and ends up having a pretty crucial role in Lyle and Erik’s arrests.
Leslie Grossman
Leslie Grossman plays Judalon in the series and equally has a pretty dramatic hair transformation for the role. Leslie has appeared in many American Horror Story seasons and is also known for her roles in Love, Victor and Popular.
Dr. Jerome Oziel
Dr. Jerome Oziel is Erik’s therapist, whom he begins to see after his parents’ death.
Dallas Roberts
Dallas Roberts takes on the role of Dr. Jerome and is best known for his roles in movies Dallas Buyers Club, 3:10 to Yuma, and the TV series The Good Wife.
