'Huge queues and not enough food': Sydney event branded the ‘Fyre Festival of food markets’

A night market in Sydney has been branded the ‘Fyre Festival of food markets’ by angry customers, after queues snaked around the building and some stalls ran out of food before people had even arrived.

The Carriageworks Winter Night Market, which was a sold out event and cost punters $10 each to attend, was supposed to be a culinary experience for Aussie foodies, held on Friday night at the famous Sydney multi-arts centre.

But angry customers have now branded the event a ‘waste of money’ after they were left ‘hangry’ when many stalls ran out of food and they were forced to leave and get dinner elsewhere around the area.

Over 50 restaurants, bars and producers set up shop at Carriageworks on Friday night between 5pm and 10pm for the night market.

Live music, cooking demonstrations and whisky tastings were also offered, with children under the age of 12 going free.

However, by 8pm many of the stalls had packed up for the night, after running out of produce.

Customers have since taken to the event’s Facebook page to lay into the organisers, with many saying they were left severely disappointed and are demanding a refund.

“Well that was just s***,” one person started. “Oversold, unorganized, under catered. Sunday markets have more stalls and better quality. The food market equivalent of the FYRE Festival.”

“This event was a waste of money! Everything was sold out so fast, after 7!! Many people and huge lines!! Not many options for food! We came around 7 and it was disaster hah... Anyways rather visit Saturday’s market, is free and good atmosphere,” another person said.

“They sold way too many tickets and was poorly organised. Lines were 30-45 mins for food or drinks. They should have done ticket sessions for ease of crowds. People walking away from event disappointed,” a disgruntled customer said.

Oner person called it the ‘the worst run event I've ever been to’ and called it a ‘poor rip off of dark mofo food hall’.

“What a waste of time. Arrived just after 6pm. Many food stalls either sold out or 50% dishes sold out before 8pm. PATHETIC!!,” another commenter said.
