You can have this entire hotel to yourself for a night

If you’re looking for a night away, but want somewhere that will still feels a little bit like home, then we have the perfect place.

The Little Albion Guest House recently opened its doors in the hip Sydney suburb of Surry Hills. The 35-room boutique hotel has been brought to life inside the heritage building of a former convent.

And while many of the heritage features have been retained, like the gorgeous stairwell, it’s got all the modern finishes to really offer a luxurious stay.

Walking into the Little Albion the first thing you’ll notice is that the property is for guests only and you either have a fob key to enter or get buzzed in by your host.

There is a dedicated team of hosts led by boutique hotel guru and genuine Surry Hills local, Wendy Morris, who will be on hand around the clock to offer individualised service.

It was so nice to really be welcomed at the door, just like if you were visiting someone else’s home.

After checking in and getting a quick rundown of the layout, we set ourselves up in room 401 and while there wasn’t much in the way of city views, the bench seat across the length of the window was the perfect spot to wind down after a day at work.

The hotel’s interior is largely influenced by the 1920s and 1970s, add to that the sound of jazz tunes around the property – and playing inside your room when you first arrive – you almost feel like you’ve time-travelled. And it seems much easier to unwind and relax.

Although if you’re not a night owl the sounds of Jazz at 11pm can get a bit much – the building wasn’t originally a hotel so the walls are a little thin. But it’s nothing your super-helpful host can’t fix in a matter of minutes.

The rooms are simple, each individually designed, but the bathroom was definitely a standout. Marble and gold, with a hint of décor tiles, it was beautifully put together. Although the makeup mirror was a little high for those of us on the shorter side.

Downstairs there are two areas to chill, the sunken lounge room at the entry, or a kitchen/bar area with dining tables and chairs. The Honour Bar is stocked with top shelf beverages. There are also nibbles available – guests are encouraged to help themselves as they would at home. That is where you’ll find the complimentary continental breakfast in the morning as well.

If you’d rather fresh air there is a rooftop terrace, which offers a quaint garden oasis, and this is where you’ll find the city views. The perfect spot to watch the sun go down.

The Little Albion definitely felt like a ‘home away from home’, just as it’s described on its website. And if one room isn’t enough you can actually book the WHOLE hotel.

Little Albion has joined forces with Airbnb to be the first ‘hotel’ that can be exclusively booked out via the Airbnb platform. The property is available to be booked out as a ‘whole hotel’, with prices starting from $15,000 per night.

And the hosts will remain at your beck and call 24 hours a day, as well as offering daily housekeeping, breakfast, and addressing any other special requests you may have.
