Yahoo Lifestyle Camila Cabello's denim cargo mini skirt is serving major Y2K vibes
As she prepares to release her fourth studio album 'C, XOXO' (officially confirmed for 28 June, FYI), Camila Cabello is fully owning her new look. As well as transforming her physical appearance with a micro fringe haircut, dyed bleach blonde tresses, plus dabbling in naked eyebrows as well as alien-bright sea blue eyes, she's also experimenting with her fashion style.
Leather is seemingly a signature of her new aesthetic, with the singer donning a black leather lace-up bustier and flared trousers to attend a Met Gala afterparty. She sported similar attire for a photoshoot for King Kong Magazine, wearing leather hotpants accessorised with a long, blonde tail. Yes, really.
And while her aforementioned 'fits may not be the most wearable IRL, that is exactly the word we'd use to describe her latest look. In fact, we're pretty sure we wore an almost identical ensemble back in 2009...
Taking to Instagram, Camila shared a carousel of photos, including multiple snaps of her wearing a cropped vest top paired with a denim mini skirt to nail the Y2K aesthetic. Her tee was decorated with an abstract print that looked like eyelashes, while the skirt featured a raw hem and buckled strings attached to the pockets, key signifiers of the cargo style. All in all, an outfit that gave us major noughties nostalgia and reminded us of our teenage selves.
And it seems Camila's fans agree, with one person commenting below her post, "Funny. This album is supposed to be about maturing as a woman, but to me it Camila’s rebranding looks quite juvenile."
However, that's not to say you can't rep the Y2K trend as an adult. In fact, Camila's outfit for her new 'He Knows' music video with Lil Nas X is majorly Y2K coded. Her stylist, Jarden Ellner, shared snaps on Instagram of her custom Michael Schmidt Studios mini dress that featured a *huge* chest cut-out alongside hip cut-outs layered over a crystal-embellished blue bikini
We're so here for Camila's new era and can't wait to see what she wears next.
