Brunello Cucinelli’s Daughters Are Making Their Mark on the Family Business
It’s safe to say that Brunello Cucinelli has reached that rarefied status afforded so few designers, where one’s first name alone is sufficient for recognition and conjures a distinct image. Beyond the man, Brunello is more than a mere brand—it’s a lifestyle. A perhaps aspirational lifestyle, though not in the mainstream sense, for Cucinelli understands that true luxury is not simply a cashmere sweater that costs the earth but the finest knitwear that has been produced in the most ethical way, or, in Brunello terms, “humanistic capitalism.” As the designer’s daughters, Carolina Cucinelli and Camilla Cucinelli, discuss their latest design (the appropriately named BC Duo bag) it would appear the apples don’t fall too far from the tree.
“We have made Brunello’s dream our own, which was to restore dignity and respect to both the land and the people,” Carolina, vice president and co-creative director, tells Robb Report. “We strive to uphold this cornerstone of the brand’s philosophy while exploring new visions, with a more contemporary twist.”

The BC Duo certainly fits that bill. Rendered in both smooth nappa calfskin and suede, the bags are offered in the timeless, tasteful neutrals and artisanal details you’d expect from the brand but are made modern by the tessellated silhouette, which was achieved by joining together geometric panels of leather.
In an era where nondescript tote bags, distinguishable only by their branding, have become the go-to for even the most stylish, something had to give. “Thanks to its different sizes, the BC Duo adapts perfectly to every moment of the day, from the most casual up to the most elegant,” Camilla, vice president and co-head women’s creative director, tells Robb Report. “Its versatility, combined with the understated elegance of the design, makes it ideal for a woman who values practicality without compromising on style.”
“The BC Duo is not just a bag; it epitomizes connection,” adds Camilla, spoken just like her famously philosophical father. “The inspiration comes from reflecting on the connection formed between elements that, despite being different, complement and enrich each other.” Which is not unlike the sisters themselves, who have become increasingly involved in the family business. In addition to managing the brand’s image, Carolina focuses on communication while Camilla researches materials and creative elements. Both are actively involved in the design of the women’s collection alongside a team of around 20 people.
“Working together is a stimulating and very natural experience for us both,” Carolina says. “The balance between our aesthetic and functional approaches allows us to create something truly unique and meticulously crafted.” And with the pristinely restored medieval hamlet of Solomeo as HQ, who could fathom working anywhere else?
