Brooke Mueller Says She and Charlie Sheen Have A 'Unique Modern Family,' Says She Gets Along With Denise Richards
"All these relationships I've had with Denise or Charlie... they're great when I'm sober, but then you can sully it all up," Mueller confessed
Brooke Mueller is reflecting on her evolving relationship with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
Mueller recently joined the Hollywood Raw podcast with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn on Wednesday, Sept. 4, and opened up about her relationship with Sheen, as well as her relationship with his ex-wife Denise Richards.
Mueller, 47, was married to Sheen from 2008 to 2011 and shares 15-year-old twins Bob and Max with the actor. Richards, 53, and Sheen, 59, married in 2002 and divorced in 2008. They share two daughters, Lola, 19, and Sami, 20.
Mueller explained in the Sept. 4 episode that the twin boys live with her full time, but she and Sheen are neighbors, allowing him to come over often or go to his home. She revealed the former couple “talk daily, sometimes oftentimes multiple times a day.”

“We have a fantastic relationship, and we have this pretty unique modern family over here where Charlie and I both live. And my kids are great,” she said. Mueller then added that she moved the family to Utah because they “were not okay” after they were “taken from [her] and put in Denise's care, and then came back to [her], and all of the chaos and everything that they had to go through.”
In 2012, Richards offered to care for the then-four-year-old boys after social workers from L.A.’s Department of Child and Family Services were alarmed by Mueller’s erratic behavior. Richards had temporary custody of the twins until Mueller’s family were transferred custody of the twins in May 2013.
Mueller revealed that now, more than a decade later, she and Richards “get along very, very well.”
“It was not always good,” she admitted. "The reason why our relationship wasn't good, it didn't have to do with Denise, it was my addiction.”
She continued: “And that's why all these relationships I've had with Denise or Charlie, or my mother, or anyone, they're great when I'm sober, but then you can sully it all up, unfortunately. And this is the devastating thing about addiction is that it affects everybody, not just the addict.”
As Mueller unveiled more about her relationship with Richards, she confessed that she believes she “was a nightmare, really a nightmare.” Adding, “It's like I have that Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde thing, so it really wasn't anything she did.”
“She actually did step up and tried to step up, and was very helpful,” she noted. “In fact, she was really helpful with me recently too, last year.”

Mueller explained during the podcast that she is currently nine months sober. “A lot of people at my level of addiction don't make it. In fact, most people don't. I worked really hard. It has not been easy. I am sober,” she stated.
“I do work a program. I do believe in the Twelve Steps. I have a fantastic sober community here in Malibu of some great women, and set meetings that I go to,” she said.
