A bride-to-be has reportedly requested her maid of honour shift more than 14kg in order to remain in the wedding party.

The shock admission came on a Reddit thread where the woman detailed the lengths her longtime best friend went to in order to encourage the weight loss.

“My friend is a personal trainer and just got engaged to another personal trainer. All of their friends were met through the gym they both work at,” the poster explained

“I’m US size 10 (AUS size 14). So I’m not obese, but I’m definitely on the fatter size. I’m very comfortable with who I am, and my doctor is too.”

Bride’s unsolicited advice

As she’s already happy with how she looks, the woman was shocked by a plan which would require her to alter her body in order to fit into the wedding party.

“Tonight [the bride] called me with the ‘best’ news,” the poster went on. “Her fiancé and her are putting together a great work out and meal plan together for me.. They figure if I drop 20-30lbs (15kg), the wedding pictures will be more ‘symmetric’.

“I wasn’t even sure what to say so I just hung up and haven’t responded. I completely flabbergasted...This isn’t a situation where I constantly b***h about my weight and then get mad when someone offers to help.

“I’ve never asked for help, I’ve never mentioned wanting to lose weight... They both just kind of took it upon themselves to ‘help me’.”

Opting out

After her friend’s unsolicited health plan, the woman said she’s now planning on ‘opting out’ of maid of honour duties, a move Reddit users agreed with.

“Call her back and tell her you thought about her symmetry issue and have decided you can just be in the centre of every picture to make it even. No weight loss needed!” joked one commenter.

“This is such an a**hole move. I am so shocked a trainer friend thought this was remotely ok,” wrote another.

Ultimately, the request was enough to stop the maid of honour from wanting to fulfil her duties — or attend the wedding at all.

“I told [the bride] I’ve never been embarrassed about my size, why would I now? She simply didn’t have an answer.”
