Bride's wedding day romper trolled for 'massive wedgie'
A bride has had her unique wedding day outfit ridiculed after she modified a more traditional white gown to make a thigh-skimming playsuit.
The look was shared on a Facebook forum where the poster revealed the bride ‘wanted something different for her reception’, so she kept the sweetheart-shaped bodice of the dress, and tailored the hem to turn it into a romper.
“Using a favourite pageant dress the bride previously wore, a custom shorts romper was made,” she wrote.
“The romper features beaded straps, and pockets with bead trim taken from along the hem of the original dress.”
Not-so-typical bridal attire
The change certainly pushed the outfit’s versatility to its limit, and piggybacked off the trend that sees many brides change out of their floor-length ceremony dress and into something shorter for the party afterwards.
However, when before and after shots of the bride’s dress were shared on Facebook, many commenters weren’t convinced the overhaul was the best use for such a formal occasion.
This disdain was most notable through users pointing out how the romper’s tailoring seemed make the material gather in all the wrong places.
“That’s the biggest wedgie I’ve ever seen,” one person wrote, adding: “In general not a bad idea.”
“I'm not judging it for being a romper, but I am judging it for how it fits... It;s all the way up her poor vagina,” another said.
Others were also quick to criticise, labelling the look everything from ‘unflattering’ to ‘pyjamas-like’ and ‘a waste of a nice dress’.
But of course, it’s the bride’s day and she can wear whatever she likes.
While the tailoring didn’t escape much criticism, others described the romper as ‘cute’, and a ‘great idea’, while one person summed up overall sentiment by saying, “This could have been so pretty if the fit wasn’t so bad”.
In another case in the US, one bride ignored tradition altogether and wore a bridal romper to her beach wedding, and only added a skirt to the back to make it more modest for the ceremony.
