A bride has been left in shock after her mother-in-law photoshopped her wedding portraits after their professional photographer refused to do so.

The admission came in an online forum where the bride detailed how her now-husband’s mother took control of much of the event’s planning, despite the couple paying for the wedding themselves.

“My MIL demanded on being involved all the way through which was fine - great actually as I really wasn’t very interested in the details,” the woman wrote.

“She arranged flowers that I didn’t want, booked a band that we didn’t like and even went back to the venue to change our menu options and time the food would be served to suit herself and her friends.

“Whatever, we wanted to be married, details weren’t that important.”

Her involvement extended to every aspect of the big day, with the mother-in-law even using her influence to veto the bride’s choice of dress.

However, the control didn’t reach its peak until after the wedding, when it came time to see the results of the professional photographer’s happy snaps.

“Apparently, although we paid for everything ourselves, my MIL gave the photographer her details so that they would send the pictures to her,” the bride explained.

“A few weeks later, we go over to MIL’s house and she tells me the photographer has sent her all the pictures she said something along the lines of, ‘he refused to photoshop them like I wanted, so I’ve done it myself’.”

According to the bride, the need for creative control was due to self inflicted scars on the bride’s arms which her now-mother-in-law said could ‘attract unwanted attention’.

She went on to say that her mother-in-law has a very basic computer skills, and that her motivation for photoshopping became clear when they saw the altered images.

“...most were cropped to cut out my lower body and the ones that weren’t had been blurred so you couldn’t see my scars,” she said.

“Her reasoning was so that my arms weren’t the first thing we’d look at when we looked back on our pictures and she kindly ‘slimmed me down’.”

The bride went on to explain that her mother-in-law was initially shocked that the couple were ‘ungrateful’ at her attempts to ‘make them look nice’.

But incredibly, she concluded that life’s too short to hold grudges.
