A bride and groom were left fuming after some of their wedding guests ordered pizza and wings to their reception when the food from the buffet ran out.

One of the hungry guests recounted the incident in a lengthy post on Reddit's "Am I the A—?" forum, explaining why the group decided to dial up for the food delivery.

They wrote that while the buffet fare "looked really good," they had to wait for several other tables — including many of the newlyweds' family members — to be called to serve themselves first. The people ahead in line, the poster noted, exacerbated the situation by taking large servings and even going back for seconds.

By the time the poster got to the buffet, they were disappointed to find that "there was nothing left" to eat. "I asked if there was more coming out and apparently that had already occurred. So we grabbed the little we could and went back to sit down and ate the scraps," they recalled.

The poster and some other guests at their table got to talking — and grumbling — about how hungry they still were and decided to order food. "We all pitched in and ordered 4 large pizzas and some chicken wings from a local pizza joint close to the venue, so it didn't take long to be delivered," they wrote.

After other tables saw the group's bounty, they shared the food with their fellow guests, which the poster said soon "caused some commotion" at the reception and prompted people to start asking the bridal party if there "was pizza available."

When the newlyweds caught wind of the food delivery situation, the bride "was not happy about it (it ruined the aesthetics)," the OP explained, adding that the groom — who is their friend — also took them aside to chide them and ask why they didn't just step out to eat some food and return to the venue instead of ordering the food directly to the reception.

After sharing their wedding story, the poster asked fellow Redditors to weigh in on whether they were in the wrong — and received more than 3,000 comments.

Many argued that the bride and groom — and the catering staff — had an obligation as hosts to make sure guests did not go hungry.

"For a wedding buffet, ALWAYS order more than what’s needed," one person wrote.

"When you cater a wedding, you either cater it by the number of plates (headcount) or otherwise the expectation would be if you do a buffet, the restaurant keeps the food coming until everyone is fed," another person commented, playfully adding, "Pizza and beer for the win!"

Yet another person chimed in: "Unfortunately wedding buffets are notorious for this. While in theory it’s great, either people get greedy or the caterers underestimate the amount of food or both. The only way to control it is to have servers at the buffet controlling the portions. And definitely no second helpings until everyone has been fed."

One commenter even shared a story about a past wedding they attended where the venue ran out of food before half of the guests were served. Pizza and wings were ordered to save the day — but in this case, by the groom's father. "The groom’s dad put in an order for 35 pizzas, dozens of wings and salads," they wrote.

While most commenters sided with the poster, several people did point out that even with an accurate headcount, it's not always easy to know how much food will be needed at a wedding.

"Food/catering is one of the hardest things to plan in a wedding, while also being one of the most expensive things. Many make the mistake of trying to save money by having exactly the amount of food they think their guests will eat when in reality you should have 10-20% or even 30% more," one Redditor wrote.

In an update to their post, the hungry wedding guest shared that the bride's family, after having time to reflect on the food mishap, had decided to make it up to all of their guests by throwing an "after wedding shingdig."

"Everyone who was at the wedding will be invited," the poster wrote, noting that the family promised to provide enough food for "an army" — including "50 large pizzas from the same joint I ordered from" as their "way of adding some humor to the situation."
