“The Braxtons”: Towanda Braxton Vows to Keep 'Fighting' for Late Sister Traci 'til the Day I Die' (Exclusive)
In PEOPLE's exclusive preview of 'The Braxtons', Towanda and sister Traci detail how they are still honoring Traci's wishes after her death
Towanda and Trina Braxton are setting the record straight about their late sister Traci’s funeral.
In an exclusive clip from the Sept. 6 episode of The Braxtons, Towanda, 50, warns producers, “What you really don’t want me to do is tell the truth…Don’t push me,” when discussing the funeral held for Traci, who died in 2022 from esophageal cancer.
Trina then clarifies that the family “didn’t not go to her funeral” but weren’t in attendance at “that thing that he set up that she did not want.”
“She said and she put in her will that she did not want a funeral…are you kidding me? But, you want him to be on a goddamn show. Never,” Towanda shares.
"I think the audience and the fans need to understand that this platform is not for anyone else other than the people who respect Traci’s wishes,” Towanda adds in a confessional.
Both sisters make it clear that Traci’s wishes are their top priority.
“I always fought for Traci and I’m going to continue fighting for Traci ‘til the day I die and beyond,” Towanda shares.
The pair further detail how they would never “leave our sister.”
“When we did Braxton Family Values. When we signed in 2009 and then we came out in 2011, everybody gave Traci that [nickname], they call her the wannabe,” Trina recalls.
“Then, it was played upon is what I’m saying. It was played upon and then it was fed,” Towanda adds as a flashback is shown.
Towanda makes it clear that was never the case, explaining, “The whole time everybody has a narrative of we left Traci behind. We signed without Traci — now, that part is true. We did sign without Traci. But, the fact is this. We signed in August. Traci was pregnant with little Kevin. Back in the ‘90s, you could not be a female and be pregnant.”
“What they said is they want every woman to be like you and for every man to want to be with you,” Trina adds.
“That was it and honest to God, me and Trina were like damn, we don’t want to sign and Traci was like, ‘Go ahead,’” Towanda says before adding they did eventually perform with Traci.
