Brad Pitt Set to Reprise Oscar-Winning Role in Upcoming Netflix Film
Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino are back at it again, setting out on production of their third and latest collaboration together. Details for the project have remain relatively scarce thus far, but one thing we do know is that the film will feature the return of Pitt's charismatic stunt performer Cliff Booth from 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In the six years since the release of his Oscar-nominated film, Tarantino has expressed avid interest in pursuing various projects related to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, including a theatrical adaptation of the movie for stage production and a full-fledged miniseries based on his fictional Western TV show, Bounty Law. Now, it seems like Tarantino's grand hopes for a continuation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has finally come to fruition.
This time around, however, the Palme d'Or-winning director of Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained will be taking a backseat role for his upcoming movie, with Tarantino handing the directorial reins over to fellow filmmaker, David Fincher.
Specific plot details about the venture are still up for speculation, but industry experts have confirmed the film will see Pitt reprise the role that won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Netflix is currently planning for the film to enter formal production by the end of summer, with Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly being eyed to once again portray Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's anxiety-riddled actor, Rick Dalton.
According to The Playlist, Pitt expressed interest in the project upon reading the screenplay for Tarantino's canceled film, "The Movie Critic." Intrigued by his character's presence in the script, Pitt asked Tarantino whether he could pitch the film to other filmmakers, allowing him to bring it to the attention of Pitt's recurring collaborator in Fincher.
Fincher -- who previously directed Pitt on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- has had a close working relationship with Netflix since 2020, having produced his last two films (Mank and The Killer) through the popular streaming service. While the movie will mark the return of Pitt's Hollywood character Cliff, the new film has been described as a "deriative" inspired by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and later drafts of "The Movie Critic," rather than an outright sequel or spin-off of Pitt and Tarantino's previous film.
