A jaw-dropping act of revenge on a cheating husband who abandoned his family has left onlookers divided over whether the furious wife overshot the mark, or whether the husband deserved what he got.
The debate kicked off after a number of flyers were found around a city in the US state of Maryland, taped to telegraph poles.
The flyers had an image of a happy family posing together, with a scathing message beneath it.
“Abandoned his wife and kids in New York to come to [the town] to sc** MILFs (and for crappy [government] job!),” the flyer read.
“Some neighbour you have! He’s still married and living with another woman.”
The flyer even called on the police to cite the man for an adultery misdemeanour, which is technically illegal in 21 states in the US.
Shared to Reddit by a gobsmacked onlooker, the photo had the identities of the children and wife concealed, but it seems they were also exposed in the scandalous flyer.
The act of vengeance, which many assumed the scorned partner had exacted, divided opinions.
Onlookers divided over ‘inappropriate’ reaction
Many slammed the husband for leaving his family, but questioned the wife’s decision to expose her children to ridicule.
“I would never do this either way, but I can’t understand why she didn’t just do a giant headshot of him,” one person pointed out.
“I understand she wants to emphasize the abandonment of his family component, but I feel like the words would have been enough.”
“This is the craziest sh*t I have ever seen,” another person agreed. “Those poor kids!”
“That’s sad, for the kids, not appropriate,” one person offered. “What an a-hole cheater. I feel terrible for the wife and kids.”
“Why would she put the kids’ pictures on the flyers?!” another wondered. “Do that to this scumbag if you wish... I get it, a lover scorned, but the kids? Really?”
Others didn’t agree, simply condemning the man for his actions.
“I hope that guy got his life ruined,” one person wrote.
The user who shared the image later clarified that the posters had been torn down the next day, clearly spotted by one of the people pictured.
It’s not the first time a messy relationship breakup has played out on the public stage.
An ex-wife was left absolutely horrified when she discovered her ex-husband had been cheating on her via his wedding announcement in The New York Times.
Professional dancer Nikyta Moreno came across the notice of her ex-husband, Robert’s, wedding to new partner, Lauren in early August.
The woman read on only to find that the soon-to-be-married couple had reportedly met in January 2017. Robert, a fitness entrepreneur, had also apparently never been married.
“That was news to me — because I was his wife in January 2017,” Nikyta told The New York Post.
