Bluey creator Joe Brumm makes major announcement about show's future: 'Try not to cry'
Bluey creator Joe Brumm has said his focus going forward will be on the Bluey feature film, to be released in 2027.
In very exciting news for Bluey fans, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company announced a Bluey movie is in the works. However, we'll have to be patient as the film is not due to land in cinemas until 2027.
The movie will be written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, and continue to follow the adventures of adorable and inexhaustible Bluey, the blue heeler dog who lives with her mum, dad, and little sister Bingo. The exciting news was announced on the official Bluey Instagram account, immediately sending fans into overdrive.
When will the Bluey movie be released?
"HUGE NEWS! 👀 There’s going to be a Bluey movie! The first-ever animated Bluey movie will land in cinemas in 2027!" the announcement read.
The film will star the vocals of Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Bluey’s mum and dad, Chilli and Bandit Heeler, and music created by composer Joff Bush.

Creator Joe Brumm explained that he always thought Bluey deserved a feature-length film.
"I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought ’Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together," he said in a press release.
Is the Bluey series ending?
One fan took to Instagram with a very important question upon learning the news. "Does this mean no more seasons til then? Panic stations over here," they said.
Over on his website, Joe Brumm has addressed some speculation, saying he will be stepping back from a "potential season four" after writing the screenplay for the feature film.
"I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last. This would have been the case for me with a potential season four, so I’ve decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series. In the event I can’t wrap my head around doing more seasons myself, The Sign will mark my TV finale for Bluey and I wrote it as such.
"To be clear, this is not an announcement about the end of the show, but it is an acknowledgment that my focus will be on the film," he said.
