Blake Shelton to produce new singing competition “The Road ”after “The Voice ”exit
The "Come Back as a Country Boy" singer is teaming up with "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan to produce a new kind of country series.
Just over a year after Blake Shelton bid farewell to The Voice, he’s ready to press play on a brand new singing competition.
The “Come Back as a Country Boy” singer, 48, is set to serve as an executive producer on CBS’ upcoming country music program, tentatively titled The Road. The series, which airs next fall, is also executive produced by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Lee Metzger, and David Glasser and will see a crop of hopeful singers compete against one another to stay in the lineup as they open for an unnamed, high-profile artist on tour.
“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on The Road,” Shelton said in a press release. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”

The series also promises to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at life as a touring artist as its competitors hop on the bus and learn to navigate all of the complexities that come with life on the road.
“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” Sheridan added. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road — literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”

If anyone can spot up-and-coming talent, it’s Shelton. The 10-time CMA award-winner starred as a coach on 23 seasons of The Voice, with nine of his contenders — including Cassadee Pope, Cam Anthony, and Bryce Leatherwood — going on to win the competition.
He also left the show with a pretty comfy souvenir. "I got my chair," Shelton revealed during a visit to The Jennifer Hudson Show last year. "I told them that it was the one thing I wanted — besides a bunch of money — to take home from The Voice was I wanted my red chair. So they did. They sent my red chair to Oklahoma."
