Bindi Irwin's touching wedding dress tribute to her parents

Since Bindi Irwin announced her engagement to Chandler Powell in July, fans have been clambering to gain any possible insight into their upcoming nuptials.

Luckily for followers, the bride-to-be is largely happy to share details of her big day, even offering a sneak-peek into her long-sleeved wedding gown to Instagram followers earlier this week.

Yes to the dress

But now the 21-year-old has gone a step further, and touchingly told ET Canada how her dress was chosen in honour of the one worn by Terri when she married Crocodile Hunter, Steve back in 1992.

“What’s wonderful about the dress is that it mimics by beautiful mum’s dress, when she got married to dad she wore a similar dress with the gorgeous lace sleeves,” Bindi told the outlet.

Motioning to Terri she went on to say: “I’m really excited to pay tribute to your dress as well.”

In a snap posted earlier this week, Bindi showed a part of her dress’ sleeves to followers—revealing the gown is ornate, long-sleeved and lace.

Similarly, her mother’s wedding look also followed the classic trend, albeit 27 years ago, and saw her fashion a near identical lace gown on the big day.

Irwins’ moving moment

Terri was also present at Kleinfeld’s in New York City when her daughter made the big—and emotional—decision.

“My beautiful mum came with me and we found the perfect dress,” Bindi said.

“As soon as I put it on we both started crying and it was such an emotional and special moment in our lives.”

Last month, Bindi confirmed more details of her wedding to Chandler in a cute Instagram post, showing the couple cradling a fluffy koala.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating our wedding day next year at Australia Zoo,” she wrote.

“Of course the day will be filled with family, friends and lots of gorgeous animals (koala cuddles are a must)!”.

Bindi’s ready to wed

The couple became engaged on the zookeeper’s 21st birthday in July.

Bindi made the announcement on Instagram, telling fans she’s “so looking forward to spending forever as your wife”.

“On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life,” Bindi wrote.

“Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking forwarding to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. Now let’s get married already!”
