The world is mourning legendary Aussie chef Bill Granger after his family announced he died on Christmas Day, aged 54.

Surrounded by his wife, Natalie Elliot, and his three daughters Edie, Ines, and Bunny, Bill died peacefully in hospital in London.

The self-taught cook and owner of Bills was known as the 'King of Breakfast' and had a career spanning over 30 years with 19 restaurants across Sydney, London, Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Seoul. He penned 14 cookbooks and made five TV series.

Bill opened his first restaurant in Darlinghurst in Sydney in 1993 and became well-known for his breakfast dishes — particularly his scrambled eggs. His restaurant franchise Bills went international in 2008.
