Big Brother air date confirmed

It’s the show that captivated audiences in Australia until it vanished from our screens six years ago and now Channel 7 have finally revealed the air date for the new season of Big Brother.

In two weeks’ time, on June 8th, a whole host of new reality stars will be blasted onto our screens from the Big Brother house in Manly.

A new promo for the show, which gives us the lowdown on 21-year-old videographer Kieran, states on June 8th at 7:30pm, the hotly-anticipated series will start.

The format of the show has been switched up a bit, with housemates nominating and then evicting each other from the house.

One of them will walk away with $250,000 in prize money.

The host of new housemates are believed to have entered the house three weeks before the virus was declared a pandemic on March 11 and cases in Australia ramped up.

With limited access to the internet or any communications devices, the housemates were believed to have been caught in an information bubble, unaware of the increasingly sombre news spreading across the globe.

However on March 17, Channel 7 confirmed the cast had been updated on the situation.

In a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, Channel 7’s production company Endemol Shine explained the production was adhering to government guidelines.

“Endemol Shine Australia takes the health and safety of our crew and contestants extremely seriously,” they wrote.

“We are working in line with current guidelines and production on Big Brother is continuing.”

They also confirmed the housemates’ families had been contacted and were being kept up to date on the situation.

“Housemates have been brought across the current situation and we are in constant contact with the families to keep all involved up to date,” they wrote.

Back in October last year, it was announced that Big Brother would be moving from its previous home at Network 10 to Channel 7.

Then, in February, it was revealed that Sonia Kruger had jumped ship from her former network, Channel Nine, and would be hosting the show.

“Literally like last week they said to me you know, we want you to host Big Brother and you could have knocked me over with a feather because I know that there were a lot of people in the mix,” Sonia said in an interview with Kyle and Jackie O on KISS 106.5

She went on to admit that when she exited Channel NIne - where she had hosted Today Extra for eight years - to rival Seven, she didn’t have the plum Big Brother role in mind.

“I know everyone was kind of speculating about it but it actually wasn’t part of why I was going to Seven,” Sonia revealed.
