Beth Behrs Is ‘Grateful’ That The Neighborhood Will Get the Proper Goodbye 2 Broke Girls Never Did

Beth Behrs sees a silver lining in The Neighborhood‘s renewal for an eighth but final season.

As the sitcom vet noted on Instagram, her current CBS comedy — which co-stars Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield and Tichina Arnold — now can plan the sort of proper series finale that 2 Broke Girls never got, when it was canceled in May 2017, a full month after its Season 6 finale aired.

“Most of my 20s were on #2BrokeGirls, almost all of my 30s were on #TheNeighborhood and I’ll usher in my 40s as we end our story,” Behrs shared on Instagram Tuesday. “@KatDenningsss and I never got a goodbye or an end to our #2BrokeGirls story, and I’m just so grateful to @cbstv for a chance to say goodbye to GEMMA the right way.”

Behrs went on to say that “these last 7 years with my @theneighborhood family has been some of the most memorable of my life. We made it through Covid, strikes, elections… and came out stronger. Forever grateful to our entire cast and crew — here’s to the best season yet!”

CBS’ 2 Broke Girls, which starred Behrs and Dennings as waitresses, headed into its Season 6 finale very much on the bubble. As such, the episode was not written as a series ender.

This is not the end for these girls,” co-showrunner Michelle Nader said ahead of Broke Girls‘ April 17, 2017 finale. “We’re not finished and we don’t want to be finished and I don’t think the audience is finished. Obviously there’s no guarantee that we will be back, but we did not write the episode as a series finale.”

What turned out to be 2 Broke Girls‘ very final episode revolved around the premiere of Caroline’s (Behrs) biopic and featured a fairly momentous turning point for Dennings’ Max. “This season for us was kind of… I don’t want to say a reboot, but we kind of think of the show as just beginning in a way,” Nader said back then. “With the girls [becoming] successful and finding love, it’s opened up a whole new world for us.”
