Ben Feldman jokes that he just had to be himself to play normal guy Lark on “Mayfair Witches”
Feldman is new to the cast in season 2 as Rowan's ex-boyfriend, Sam "Lark" Larkin.
When it comes to joining the world of Mayfair Witches, one might anticipate having to learn how to believably portray some witchy happenings.
But for Ben Feldman, who joins season 2 of the Anne Rice Universe series as Sam "Lark" Larkin, it was the opposite. Feldman's character is a geneticist and a former boyfriend of Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), who comes back into her life when she needs help discerning the genetic makeup of the newly reborn Lasher (Jack Huston).
Amidst all the demons and witches and other supernatural beings that have come into Rowan's life as a Mayfair, Lark is a bit of an oddity — he's just a normal human. Feldman notes that made it easy for him to react to the bizarre lives of the Mayfair family in the same way that he would in real life.

"I'm just a guy who showed up and this is my ex-girlfriend," Feldman quipped at the season 2 premiere of the show, cohosted by Entertainment Weekly and AMC. "It was relatively easy for me. I was just playing myself in a way because my job was to go, 'What's going on with you? This is strange. You guys are doing some weird stuff.'"
As he re-enters Rowan's life, Lark begins to realize that the girl he once knew has changed in ways that he finds unrecognizable.
"He's an ex-boyfriend, and he runs a genetics company," he said, introducing audiences to Lark. "He's from her world scientifically, but he's from a different era in her life — when she was a normal person. For a good portion of the season, she's just strange to him. She's always in the middle of something really weird when he shows up for a date."

"That quickly changes," he continued. "And it's a strange thing to play. Everybody else is in this world. At one point in the season I had to play the whole, 'Wait, you're a witch?' It was a crazy thing to learn about your ex-girlfriend. In a way, I felt like I was a viewer and fan of this show who stumbled onto the set."

But just because Lark isn't magical himself, that doesn't mean he won't potentially find himself in the crosshairs of all the Mayfair drama — especially given the fact that Lasher is fairly intent on keeping Rowan for himself. Still, Feldman explained that for most of the season, it's an ignorance is bliss situation.
"I don't have to care," he joked. "I don't know about any of it until like episode 7 or something like that. I'm having a good time. I'm connecting with my ex-girlfriend, who's maybe a psycho. I was really busy doing other things. He doesn't get a chance to really understand what a horrifying situation this is until there's not a lot of time to spend on it. Without giving anything away."
Mayfair Witches returns to AMC and AMC+ for season 2 on Jan. 5.
