Belgian Label Bernadette Finds a Temporary Home for the Holidays in New York

Bernadette is tying up its fifth anniversary in a festive bow.

The Antwerp-based evening and lifestyle brand helmed by Bernadette and Charlotte de Geyter has draped a giant taffeta one over the facade of Beverly’s on New York’s Lower East Side, revealing its holiday-themed takeover of the home goods store.

The de Geyters have been on the road lately setting up temporary shops in trendy city pockets where Bernadette has limited wholesale presence. Pettibon café hosted the mother-daughter duo in September for Paris Fashion Week, but they have been eager to land their retro romantic universe Stateside, saying “we really cherish the enthusiasm of our American customers and are very grateful.”

Open from Thursday to Sunday, the pop-up introduces a different range than what Bernadette currently offers in New York. While its couture-inspired fare is stocked uptown at Bergdorf Goodman, Beverly’s will spotlight home goods and tableware, which the de Geyters launched during fashion’s interiors craze mid-pandemic.

Pastel-colored mugs, dog bowls, table linens and tea pots with dainty floral motifs are some of the items featured in the exclusive gift edit alongside knits and nighties and new embroidered bow-shaped Christmas ornaments. Two small bows can be purchased as a set for $230 and large bows will be sold individually for $290.

“The bow has always been a deeply nostalgic and playful symbol for us,” said the de Geyters, adding that the ornaments are “a perfect celebration of the season.” Still, they play only a supporting role in setting a truly Bernadette-worthy holiday-scape. “We always love to say, ‘wake up in our silk PJs, throw a party in our dresses and enjoy dinner with our ceramics.’”

Beverly’s owner Beverly Nguyen is likely to try for all of the above. As a former editor and stylist, Nguyen has supported the brand since its first collection in 2018, and when the de Geyters invited her to a dinner party last year, the idea to collaborate started.

“Bringing their home collection to Beverly’s is very exciting — an inspiring project to close out an incredible year for both of us,” she said. In fact, Nguyen wore a voluminous emerald Bernadette gown to her own pop-up opening, “so it’s now a full-circle moment.”
