Barbra Streisand is paying tribute to her late A Star Is Born costar Kris Kristofferson.
On Sunday, Sept. 29, Streisand, 82, shared a sweet post on Instagram remembering the renowned actor and country singer-songwriter after a representative confirmed to PEOPLE that he'd died "peacefully" at age 88 at his home in Maui on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Streisand shared a photo of herself and Kristofferson promoting their 1976 film A Star Is Born — in which they starred as Esther Hoffman and John Norman Howard — as well as another more recent image of them performing together at her British Summer Time show in London's Hyde Park in July 2019.
"The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born," Streisand captioned the post.

"In the movie, Kris and I sang the song I’d written for the film’s main love theme, 'Evergreen,' " she added of the track for which she won Best Original Song at the 1977 Academy Awards.
"For my latest concert in 2019 at London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to join me on-stage to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, 'Lost Inside Of You.' He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause," the actress and singer recalled. "It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved."
Mentioning Kristofferson's wife Lisa Meyers, whom he married in 1983, Streisand concluded, "My thoughts go to Kris’ wife, Lisa who I know supported him in every way possible."
Streisand and Kristofferson's version of the beloved film was a remake of the original 1937 movie of the same name starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. In 2018, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper also remade the movie and picked up Best Original Song at the 2019 Oscars with “Shallow” — which also won a Grammy and a Golden Globe.
Streisand was just one of many celebrities who paid tribute to Kristofferson following his death over the weekend.
His longtime friend and collaborator Dolly Parton posted on Instagram, “What a great loss. What a great writer. What a great actor. What a great friend. I will always love you, Dolly,” she signed off, adding a butterfly graphic.
