Bachelorette's Todd has since 'questioned if everything was authentic'

He may have come in as Ali Oetjen’s knight in shining armour but unfortunately for Bachelorette finalist Todd King, the fairytale ending wasn’t to be.

In last night’s emotional finale Ali chose Taite Radley as her winner, leaving a heartbroken Todd walking away with an engagement ring in his pocket – which yes, he would have used.

“I suppose if Ali had turned around and said that she reciprocated my feelings… I think I would have taken the plunge,” he told Yahoo Lifestyle.

However despite being so certain in his relationship with Ali throughout the show, since watching it back Todd revealed he has had his doubts.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t question whether everything was authentic,” Todd said after recognising Ali had her heart set on 28-year-old Taite quite early on.

“The spark, it was just stronger with them,” he admitted.

It wasn’t until the end that the aspiring police officer felt he was actually in with a chance, “I finally felt like I wasn’t just there making up the numbers.”

“I think that’s evident in the finale because she found it so tough to emotionally and physically let me go… I did try to leave and walk away before the moment that you guys saw but she just wasn’t ready to let me go.”

“It’s tough to see someone you love struggling that much,” he continued before explaining even all the crew were in tears.

“I finally had myself composed and I was ready for the interview but everyone around me was crying so it took me back to square one.”

Since filming, Todd is hoping to put the feelings aside – that he admits all came rushing back last night.

“I didn’t expect all the feelings to come back but they definitely did,” he told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I guess now I actually get the chance to move on because, for the public, I’ve been in a relationship for the last 2 months since the show stopped filming so now… I can take the next step in my life.”

And no – Todd confirmed the next stage in his life does not include going to Fiji for Bachelor in Paradise.

“I’m nowhere near ready to put myself out there again,” he said.

“I’m just going to keep to myself and focus on my goals. I’ll get there eventually.”
