Bachelorette’s Konrad confirms romance with Abbie Chatfield: ‘Excited’
While things might not have worked out for Konrad Bien-Stephen and Brooke Blurton during Thursday night’s episode of The Bachelorette, where he was eliminated after his hometown date, he seems to have well and truly moved on with another star of the reality TV franchise.
Earlier this month, the 31-year-old was spotted in Byron Bay sharing a kiss with Bachelor season seven runner-up, I'm A Celebrity champion and all-round queen, Abbie Chatfield.
Chatting with Yahoo Lifestyle, Konrad confirmed the rumours that he and Abbie had started seeing each other and said he was eager to see how things go.
“We filmed The Bachelorette ages ago, production ended back in August,” he explained. “Brooke and I weren’t meant to be and having said that, Abbie is an amazing girl.
“I’m really, really excited to get to know her and see what the future holds between Abbie and I.”
Prior to being seen together, Abbie was vocal about her attraction towards Konrad on her podcast, It’s A Lot, where she does weekly Bachelorette recaps.
The 26-year-old declared in a recent episode that she finds him “cute” and wants him to “take care” of her and be her “love seat”, which is a reference to the drama earlier this season where he and Brooke built a chair together on the red carpet.
‘I am indeed a Gemini, yes’
Although Konrad admits he hadn’t heard Abbie’s podcast comments about him before they connected, he said that the way they met up was “actually quite funny”.
“Abbie and I meeting was totally random,” he began. “I was staying with a friend in Byron Bay and we were out to lunch and it just happened that she was there for the weekend and messaged us, so totally random occurrence.
“Super stoked that it did happen and we met. But no, I wasn’t really aware of what had been said online,” he added with a laugh.

A few days after the pair’s PDA, Abbie took to Instagram to reveal that she had been on a date with a mystery man who is a Gemini and asked her followers if she should pursue the relationship if they have the same star sign.
After fans speculated for weeks online about what Konrad’s star sign is and whether he is the man Abbie was referring to, he confessed to Yahoo Lifestyle what everyone was already hopeful of: “I am indeed a Gemini, yes.”
‘It was a little bit silly of me’
It was reported following Konrad and Abbie’s kiss that The Bachelor’s production company was “fuming” over the clear spoiler that Konrad didn’t win Brooke’s heart, and he could potentially lose his $5,000 bonus for breaching his contract.
Responding to the claims, Konrad said that the gossip was far from the truth because he has “a really great relationship with everyone on the production”.
“I honestly don't know where that's come from,” he remarked. “No one bit my head off, no one was ‘livid’ at me. Obviously it wasn't ideal, it was a little bit silly of me, but no one bit my head off.”
Speaking about his current relationship with Bachelorette Brooke, who is also a good friend of Abbie, Konrad is hopeful that they can maintain a friendship outside of the show.
“She is a strong, really driven, sort of powerful person,” he detailed. "I’d love to maintain a friendship with her. I've got no hard feelings towards Brooke at all.
“I really had a great experience. And I hope whoever Brooke chooses in the end works out for her. She's a great girl and she deserves everything and more in this world.”
‘Everything happens for a reason’
While Konrad’s current relationship status clearly prevents him from fulfilling viewers’ wishes of becoming the next Bachelor, he said that he would “definitely consider” the TV gig if the timing was right.
“I think I’d be silly not to if I was approached and single,” he revealed.
“I mean, the people at Channel Ten and Warner Brothers, they’re all super invested in the Bachelor or Bachelorette finding that person for them and it ending in a fairytale.”
And even though his TV love story didn’t have its own fairytale ending, he feels proud to have been a part of such an iconic season.
“Having Brooke represent the First Nations people and also the LGBTQIA+ community really made it special,” he reflected.
“There were beautiful people that I met, I learned a lot of stuff and I'm really grateful that I was a part of it. So the whole experience for me was something I’ll never regret doing.
“I had a great time and I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything happens for a reason and it is what it is.”
