Bachelor star Emily Ghougassian (née Simms) has been discharged from hospital after giving birth to her first child seven weeks early - but her newborn daughter is staying behind.

“I was finally discharged from hospital last night, and whilst I still feel pretty crappy, I am on the mend!” the makeup artist, 36, wrote in her Instagram Story on Tuesday.

The proud parent included a sweet snap of her bub in a white romper and with what looks like a breathing tube.

Emily was rushed to a Melbourne hospital’s critical care unit after delivering Laila prematurely on July 3.

While the new mum has since been allowed to return home, her baby girl is still in hospital but is “doing well.”

“Our beautiful little Laila is doing so well, she's out of the isolette now, breathing on her own and maintains a good body temperature,” Emily added.

An isolette is a clear plastic enclosed crib that maintains a warm environment for a new baby and isolates them from germs.

“Hopefully will have her home in a couple of weeks. She's actually the sweetest little thing,” she gushed.

Delivery room drama

In an Instagram post shared hours after their baby girl’s birth - which appears to have been written by the reality star’s husband Pierre - it was revealed that Emily was suffering with “severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome”.

“Mum is not doing so great,” he said.

The new dad added that Laila was “doing well” and had been moved out of ICU and into a special care nursery.

Weighing just over 2kg, Laila fell into the ‘premature’ category - babies born between 32 and 36 weeks- and may have required help breathing in the intensive care unit.

A day before she gave birth Emily told her Instagram followers that she was admitted to hospital on June 28 after “feeling like death.”

Her illnesses prevented her from attending her own baby shower - which her hubby went to instead of her.

“After being in hospital now with diagnosed pre-eclampsia since Friday last week, feeling like death, not being able to make it to my baby shower last Sunday, and just trying to keep her in for a bit longer, it's been emotionally and physically really difficult (to say the least),” she wrote.

Emily - who appeared on Sam Wood's season of The Bachelor Australia - went on to thank real estate agent Pierre, whom she wed in August 2018, a year after they first met.
