America is a constant source of fascination for us Aussies, and not just because of its wild political climate. Known for being the land where everything is "supersized", there are just some things that people across the pond cannot get their heads around.

Take supermarkets (or grocery stores - as they are called in the US), for example. These brightly lit monoliths assault the senses with their dizzying array of lollies (candy) through to the selection of guns and ammo found in some chains. It puts the middle aisle at Aldi to shame, really!

One Aussie traveller, Anna Paul, recently shared her US supermarket find on TikTok, taking her followers on a journey through the aisles of a massive American store that appeared to be a Walmart and showing them the 'crazy' items she found.

"We're in an American grocery store and these are some of the craziest foods that we could see," she says.

"The produce section is teensy, teeny weeny weeny. Look, it's so small and then you have all of this," she continues before gesturing to a massive wall of confectionery.

Anna then held up a packet of cinnamon toast crunch cereal-flavoured bacon (yes, you read that correctly), with her brother joking that the combo was a "money saver."

"A blueberry pancake hamburger breakfast situation. That's crazy," Anna said as she continued her pilgrimage around the store.

Other 'food' items found include movie theatre butter for popcorn that looks like syrup and movie theatre butter-flavoured 'spritzer' if you prefer to spray paint your movie snacks with pure fat.

The pair also demonstrate the size of the bags of cereal on offer, like cinnamon toast crunch and rhapsodise over a box of cookie butter coffee.

"That is so... Americans know what they're doing," Anna says.

"And the Oreo section - it's so big," she continues. "Like, look at this. It's birthday cake flavour. This is definitely Red 40 but it's fine. It 100% is Red 40."

Red 40 is a controversial food dye that is approved for human consumption despite concerns about its health effects.

The video has generated almost 6 million views and scores of comments from people who couldn't believe what they were seeing.

"Cereal-flavoured bacon is crazy," one shocked viewer wrote while another said, "Okay the bacon is genuinely insane."

"Cereal-flavoured bacon is diabolical," someone else added.

"American food scares me 😂," said another.

"Is it illegal to consume vitamins and minerals in America?" another person joked.

"This explains why my American bf thinks a Ceasar salad is healthy 😂😂," someone else quipped.

Other people were quick to point out that Walmart is not the place to go if you want to do proper grocery shopping, with several suggesting that Anna check out stores with proper produce sections like Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods instead.

"It’s just a TikTok showing some unique foods that we don’t have at home😭," Anna replied. "I’m not gonna film a bunch of apples and tomatoes that cost $150 at Whole Foods and make a TikTok out of it lol."

And fair enough! After all, these days, she could do that at Woolies!
