Aussie actress' honest breastfeeding post inspires huge response
New mum Claire Holt shared a candid post about breastfeeding, and it’s getting a huge response.
The Vampire Diaries and Originals actress gave birth to her first child, son James, less than two weeks ago and now she has opened up to her 4.6 million followers about the tough moments of “self-doubt” that accompany motherhood, admitting she was “feeling defeated” after “struggling through a tough feed”.
“My only concern is making sure his needs are met, yet I often feel that I’m falling short,” Claire captioned an emotional selfie of her with her baby boy.
“Motherhood is an overwhelming combination of bliss and self-doubt. I try to remind myself that I can’t be perfect.”
The 30-year-old actress said James “is worth every second of the struggle,” but asked fellow mums: “tell me I’m not alone??”

Claire’s message was met with supportive responses from fellow mums and celebrity friends with over 1.3 million people liking the post.
“I gave myself two days off in the first week so I wouldn’t be [scared] and sad every time she woke up to feed,” Amanda Seyfried commented. “And it helped so much. No guilt. Just pump and bottle. And then did both throughout. Less pressure. You’re not alone.”
“Hang in there mama! The hardest and most rewarding job,” Jamie Lynn Siglar added. “And don’t forget those hormones are playing with your heart and head. You are not alone. It’s part of this wonderful difficult process. Sending you all the love.”
“You’re doing great and making a lot of moms feel better that they aren’t the only ones struggling to do it right,” shared Erin Foster.
“Totally not alone! Totally normal to feel this way,” wrote Miranda Kerr. “Sending love.”

In a follow-up post Claire said she was “blown away” by the love she received.
“I am reminded of the incredible support that comes with sharing vulnerable moments,” she wrote. “I feel like I am part of a beautiful tribe — we are all in this together. Thank you for helping me to feel normal. For sharing your stories.”
Claire said her little one must have heard her prayers “because he slept like a champ last night and had a great feed this morning. I’m so glad I kept trying and I’ll re-read your comments every time I’m feeling down”.
The new addition comes after Claire revealed she had suffered a miscarriage in March last year.
At the time she shared a devastating post on Instagram alongside an image of herself before going into surgery.
But while she was giving a thumbs-up in the image, she explained in her post that in truth she felt ‘broken’. “I took this photo 10 days ago, as I waited for surgery after my sweet little baby lost its heartbeat.”
Claire hasn’t been the only one to open up about the heartache of going through losing a baby.
Just this week Hilaria Baldwin confirmed she had suffered a miscarriage. She shared the news in an Instagram post which sees her posing with husband Alec Baldwin and their four children.
“There was no heartbeat today at my scan…so it’s over…but I have some pretty strong and amazing heartbeats right here,” she wrote.
