Chris Hemsworth may have competition in the action-movie star department: his kids want to follow in his footsteps.

“My kids, I've got to hold them on the sidelines,” the Australian star, 40, tells PEOPLE of daughter India Rose Hemsworth, 12, and twin boys Sasha Hemsworth and Tristan Hemsworth, both 10, who he shares with wife Elsa Pataky.

“They're like, ‘Give me a shot! I want to jump in there, jump in the truck and the bike,’ and so on,” he adds.

Hemsworth’s kids got a front row seat to his latest action-packed project: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (in theaters now), writer-director George Miller’s prequel to 2015’s hit Mad Max: Fury Road

Starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the titular role inherited from Charlize Theron, the newest installment of Miller’s post-apocalyptic Wasteland saga (which began with 1979's Mel Gibson-starring Mad Max) features plenty of violence, explosions and high-speed chases through the desert — not exactly kids’ fare, as Hemsworth acknowledges.

“They were there on the set… I know it's not a kid's movie, but they've seen it all,” he admits. “It's sort of like the smoke and mirrors of it all. It's a complete illusion, it's like a Halloween party for them. They were laughing through the bits that they're supposed to be terrified in.”

“They're such cool kids,” Taylor-Joy, 28, chimes in. Having met India, Sasha and Tristan on the Furiosa set and throughout its press tour, she can confirm their future action-movie bona fides. “They’re going to kill it.”

In terms of risking life and limb to pull off the dangerous stunts required of a movie like Furiosa, agrees Hemsworth, “Yeah, they’re not worried.”

Pataky, 47, is also featured in Furiosa in two minor roles. At the movie’s Australian premiere on May 1, the proud parents brought Sasha and Tristan onto the red carpet.

“It was hard not to have them there,” the Thor star explains. “We were kind of going, ‘Well, this is with Mom and Dad, we're going to this thing.’ They were like, ‘No, no way. We're coming.’”

As for Taylor-Joy’s family, she tells PEOPLE her mother, Jennifer Marina Joy, is less enthused about her action-heavy line of work. “My mom has a hard time watching my movies in general. She kind of has to watch them a few times because the first time she just finds it quite traumatic, she can't quite separate.”

Taylor-Joy’s mom even visits her film sets, she recalls, “and she's a bit like, ‘What's my role? When do I step in?’"

“I think, yeah, we do a crazy job,” she adds. “Thanks, Mom!”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, costarring Tom Burke, Alyla Browne and Lachy Hulme, is in theaters now.
