Andie MacDowell’s daughters are huge fans of her style!

The actress and L’Oréal Paris ambassador, 66, revealed to PEOPLE at the Cannes Film Festival that she’s often mistaken for still being a model since she is still featured on ads for the French brand — and even her daughters Margaret, 29, and Rainey Qualley, 35, still use her for style inspiration.

“I went to Margaret's house and I showed up, and she had gone online and bought a lot of my old covers,” MacDowell shared. “So when I saw … she had these covers with me on it, I was very touched by that. So I went online and tried to find some covers that I didn't have.”

“And Rainey does it, too,” she added.

MacDowell — who shares her daughters and son Justin with her ex-husband, Paul Qualley — told PEOPLE that she felt happy to know it was important for her daughters to save her pictures from her modeling days, something that she had been meaning to do as well.

“It made me feel good. Because I do that to them, obviously. I'm always like, ‘I want this and let's save this picture. I want that.’ But to have them do the same to me … makes me feel really good,” she explained.

The Way Home star, noted that she has graced advertisements and magazines since she began her tenure as a spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris “nearly 40 years” ago, and she’s seen how the beauty industry has evolved from that time to her daughters’ generation.

"I've seen [the brand] be in the forefront of [inclusiveness], including women from all over the world, all different kinds of beauty and obviously older women, which is, we need that,” she told PEOPLE. “It's important for us. So I've seen them grow and they've also exposed me to obviously being able to come to Cannes all the time for them is wonderful.”

She also noted that the “culture” behind women has “changed” over the years from when she first starred in the 1989 film Sex, Lies and Videotape. She said back then she didn’t attend the Cannes Film Festival because she “just had a baby” and was “afraid” of what people would think of her body.

“Society has changed because they could be very cruel. They were cruel to women,” she recalled. “And because of the shift in our expectations and because we brought it out, they can't be like that to us anymore.”

She added that it was a “shame” that she hadn’t felt comfortable to show off her body at the time due to criticism, but now she feels that she’s able to “embrace” her “womanly body.”

“I think we couldn't feel sexy about ourselves because they were telling us that we weren't. And we've claimed it, and we've taken it back and we said, ‘But this is what it is to be a woman. We're not girls, we're women,’ “ she explained.

“I think that's changed during my time, during my 40 years [of] aging,” she added. “I think that concept has changed.”

At Cannes, MacDowell also attended the Lights on Women Award ceremony on May 24, which L’Oréal Paris launched in 2021 to celebrate future female filmmakers.
