  • Amy Schumer lost 30 pounds using Ozempic, but experienced negative side effects.

  • She was "bedridden" and didn't have energy.

  • Amy has a gene that makes her "extremely prone to nausea," which she believes is why she experienced extreme vomiting.

Amy Schumer has been totally upfront about using Ozempic in the past. But the 43-year-old just revealed that her experience using the medication was actually pretty terrible.

Amy revealed that she had a negative reaction to the drug that may have been caused by her genetics.

“I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy,” the comedian said in a January 29 interview on The Howard Stern Show. “So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was, like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting—and then you have no energy.”

Amy said that she was “shriveling away” in bed due to the extreme nausea when she took the medication. “I lost 30 pounds so quick,” she said. “I looked great, but I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. So, what’s the point?”

Some research suggests that nearly 49 percent of people who take semaglutide (aka Ozempic or Wegovy) have side effects. According to the Ozempic website, those side effects can include:

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • Stomach (abdominal) pain

  • Vomiting

  • Constipation

Amy previously opened up about her Ozempic use during a 2023 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, noting that the drug wasn’t “livable” for her due to the side effects. “I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son. I was so skinny and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t],” she said. “But I immediately invested [in it] because I knew everyone was going to try it.”

During her most recent interview, Amy blasted celebrities who weren’t honest about their Ozempic use. “Everyone has been lying saying, ‘Oh smaller portions.’ Like shut the f*ck up,” she said. “You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop. Be real with the people. When I got lipo, I said I got lipo.”

Despite her bad reaction to the medication, Amy made it clear during her interview with Howard Stern that she's aware that the drug has helped plenty of other people. "Other people take it and they’re all good. So, God bless them," she said.
