Made In Bondi reality show slammed by residents as 'unrealistic' and 'the last thing Bondi needs'

Channel Seven announced last week that they will be teaming up with British broadcaster E4 to produce Made in Bondi, a new structured-reality show inspired by the success of Made in Chelsea in the UK.
The series, which is set to premiere in 2024, will “follow the lives and loves of Sydney’s young, social elite” and give viewers “a front-row seat to parties, fashion, and romances”.
“From trendy bars to luxurious harbourside mansions, this group of young socialites will navigate the interconnected web of relationships that define their lives,” the network said in a statement.
While fans of the long-running British series Made in Chelsea may be thrilled by the announcement that an Aussie version is in the works, many Sydneysiders have expressed fear that the show will be an “unrealistic” representation of the Eastern suburbs.

Jean, a mother in her 40s who has lived in Bondi all her life, tells Yahoo Lifestyle: “The last thing Bondi needs is more unrealistic media reinforcing these stereotypes [that everybody is an influencer here].
“This is one of the most diverse suburbs in Sydney with such a strong sense of community but that is never highlighted.”
'Entitled rich kids'
Pilar, who works in a cafe by Bondi Beach, adds that the “real Bondi” is families, backpackers and people of all ages and nationalities enjoying the hot weather together.
British expat Jake Leech agrees, saying: “Bondi isn’t defined by a handful of cosmetically enhanced, entitled rich kids wanting attention.”
The show was also slammed by locals on social media after it was announced, with one person commenting: “Australia's media output is getting more Sydney-centric and less meaningful by the day.”
“The real elite wouldn’t be caught dead doing this,” another added, while a third poked fun at Bondi stereotypes and wrote, “I wonder if it'll just be coke, kale smoothies and influencers?”.

In addition to Made In Bondi, Seven announced at their 2024 Upfront event last week that their upcoming slate of new reality shows includes Stranded on a Honeymoon Island from the creators of MAFS, First Dates, and the controversial Big Brother Uncut.
Dr Chris Brown is also set to host a new animal series titled Once in a Lifetime and the renovation competition series Dream Home, and join Sonia Kruger as co-host of Dancing With The Stars.
Meanwhile, popular reality shows returning next year include Farmer Wants A Wife, The Voice, Australian Idol, SAS Australia, Big Brother and My Kitchen Rules.
