America's Favorite Supermarket Was Just Named—But It's Not the One You'd Expect

If you haven’t noticed, groceries have been quite the hot topic lately. Every other story seems to swing from the announcement of a new and exciting product—like the addition of two new Lucky Charms flavors—to an anxiety-inducing report on the rising costs of eggs, avocados, tariffs on imports and another handful of product recalls. From dog food to broccoli, nothing seems to be immune from the ripple effects of climate change, economic policy or just a general lack of accountability when it comes to the systems in place meant to keep us safe. It can be exhausting, to say the least.

That being said, the one thing we do have control over is where we choose to spend our hard-earned cash, and these days, we’re seeing shifts in where and how we shop altogether. Whether you choose your favorite grocery store based on prices, variety and quality of goods, or simply based on your location, odds are, you’ve got some strong opinions about what makes a grocery store great—and you’re not alone. According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index’s (ACSI) annual retail and consumer shopping survey, two grocery stores tied for the top spot as America’s favorite supermarket, and the results speak for themselves.

To conduct the survey, the ACSI polled shoppers from December 2023 to December 2024 and aggregated scores out of 100 based on satisfaction markers like convenience of store hours, ease of pick-up process, quality of goods and other criteria. Unsurprisingly, Publix and Trader Joe’s took home number one with both receiving a healthy 84 out of a total 100 score. In comparison to last year’s survey, Publix dropped a meager 1-percent while Trader Joe’s stayed the same. Other notable members of the top include regional favorite Wegmans at number two, Sam’s Club in third and Whole Foods coming in at number four.

Fan-favorite chains like Target and Aldi both managed to score above an 80 with Target dropping 2-percent compared to last year, while Aldi’s score stayed the same. At the end of the day, regardless of where you shop, you can always switch it up to maximize your budget or try something new. Odds are, this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing about groceries any time soon, so you might as well enjoy where you shop. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got to make another run to Trader Joe’s.
