“American Fiction” Author Percival Everett Among Finalists for the Prestigious Booker Prize — See the Full List!
The winner out of the 18 nominees will be announced on November 12
The nominees for the 2024 Booker Prize have been announced.
On Tuesday, July 30, the esteemed awarding body announced the 13 finalists for this year’s Booker Prize, which is awarded to one fiction work annually.
The judging panel is led by author Edmund de Waal and consists of judges Sara Collins, Justine Jordan, Yiyun Li and Nitin Sawhney. For the honor, the panel evaluated 156 books published between October 1, 2023 and September 2024.
Among the nominees are three debut novelists and eight women. This year also sees a Dutch author and a Native American author receiving the nomination for the first time in the award’s history with Yael van der Wouden and Tommy Orange receiving recognition for their respective works.

Four-time nominee Richard Powers received a spot on the longlist for his 2024 novel Playground, which is expected to come out on September 24, and American Fiction writer Percival Everett, who has been previously nominated twice, was on the list for his latest book James.
"After seven months and 156 novels, it is a great moment to be able to hand over this glorious longlist of urgent, resonant books for the Booker Prize 2024: a cohort of global voices, strong voices and new voices," chair de Waal says in a statement.
"One of the true markers of the novels that we have chosen is that we feel they are necessary books, fiction that has made a space in our hearts and that we want to see find a place in the reading lives of many others. To reach the end of a novel and to be deeply moved and be unable to work out quite how that has happened is a great gift," he continued.
