Allison Langdon requires surgery after Today show accident

New details have emerged after Today show host Allison Langdon was rushed to hospital last week after injuring herself during filming.

The 41-year-old will reportedly require knee surgery after hurting herself while filming a segment on 'hydrofoiling' in Queensland, and is set to take a "lengthy break" from her hosting duties.

In a statement following the incident, Channel 9 said it was an "unfortunate accident" and despite the mishap both Karl and Ally "had a wonderful time".

“They had a comprehensive safety induction, and a thorough run-through of all aspects of hydrofoiling," the network told News.com.au.

“As with every shoot, safety requirements, briefings and subsequent after-care, are strictly followed and prioritised.”

Dramatic footage aired on the Today show on Friday, showing Ally lying on her back in the water wearing a life vest as she was guided to shore by two men.

Sitting on the jetty afterwards, her co-host, Karl Stefanovic, was seen helping Ally take her helmet off.

Karl revealed the shock news live on air, explaining that Ally, 41, was being treated in a local hospital after the incident in Burleigh Heads, Queensland.

“She had a bit of an accident yesterday, she's doing fine,” he said.

“She hurt herself really badly. She's in hospital this morning. She's OK,” he added.

Leila McKinnon, who has hosted Weekend Today in the past, has been filling in for Ally while she recovers.

In an Instagram Story on the show’s official account last week, Leila revealed how she had stepped in at the eleventh hour to cover for Ally after her accident.

“So I got the call last night and I was in my pyjamas,” Leila said on Friday.

“Ally’s had a bit of a mishap so I quickly got changed and headed up the road."
