Aldi shoppers swear these $2.19 biscuit dupes are better than the $5 original: 'Bloody amazing'

Can anything really beat an Arnott's Tim Tam? Some Aldi fans think so.

If there is one thing Aussies take seriously, it's food items that are uniquely 'ours'. Vegemite, Freddo Frogs, Dunkaroos (RIP) and even the questionable Spearmint Leaves are all just examples of edible delicacies that we proudly take credit for.

So, naturally, when someone claims to have found something better than the original, people are going to have opinions. This was evident in a recent online post where an Aldi shopper told her fellow fans that she had found a biscuit she deemed to be better than the holy grail of Aussie treats.

"Whoever likes Tim Tams buy the Aldi version they are heaps better than Arnott's," the shopper wrote.

While some may have thought it was an odd attempt at some good old-fashioned rage bait, several people weighed in saying that they couldn't agree more.

"Yeah, I love them more too," one person wrote.

"My kids refuse the Arnott's ones now they have tried the Aldi one," another said.

"100% agree! Same as the Aldi brand mint slice," yet another shopper added.

"We like them more too," someone else agreed.

"My partner literally just finished a whole packet in one sitting as I was reading this. They are very nice," another fan added.

Now, you might be sitting here thinking "Surely there had to have been some discourse! Surely some shoppers came to the defence of our National Chocolate Straw!" Well, friend, you are correct. In fact, several people said that they didn't think the Aldi version - called Just Divine from Belmont Biscuit Co - could hold a candle to the OG.

"Each to their own but Arnott's Tim Tams are 100% better - they are good for a cheap chocolate fix," one valiant TimTam crusader wrote.

"I'm sorry but that's a straight-up lie haha," another said. "I love a lot of Aldi dupes but these 'Tim Tams'" aren't it at all."

"No way, nothing compares to proper Tim Tams," a third wrote.

"I'm very faithful to the original! Can't beat them!" said yet another person from Team Tim Tam.

"As much as I like some of the Aldi biscuits I have to say these don't even come close to being as good as Tim Tams," was another comment.

Others seemed to be open to having their minds changed with a few people writing that they intended to try the impersonator biscuits.

In terms of price, the Aldi Just Divine Biscuits are $2.19 a packet - a saving of $2.81 if you were to buy Tim Tams at the full price of $5. However, the Arnott's originals are often on special at Woolies and Coles for 50% off - and come in a much wider array of flavours such as chewy caramel, caffe latte, raspberry and even gluten-free.

The Aldi version only comes in a dupe of the original Tim Tam with one shopper saying, "Comparing to the original Tim Tam, I prefer the Aldi one - tastes more like chocolate. However Tim Tam has many other versions, and I like the triple choc."

"They're not bad for a chocolate biscuit, especially for the price, but they miss the malty flavour of actual Tim Tams,' another person said. "They certainly hit the spot, but often leave you just wishing you had the real deal."
