Al Roker has a piece of home right in Paris — his daughter, Leila Roker.

The Today show co-host is currently in the City of Light to cover the 2024 Summer Games, and while there, he's getting special time with Leila, who has lived in Paris for seven years.

"That is the bonus," he tells PEOPLE on the Today set in Trocadéro Square. "I mean, that's the gold medal because she's lived here almost seven years and she speaks French fluently and so we love Paris to begin with. So it's a great reason to come."

The treat is "just being able to hang out with her," Al says.

Conveniently, Al's wife and Leila's mom, ABC News journalist Deborah Roberts, is also in Paris for the Games.

Leila and Roberts took in the swimming competition this week, and then she led her dad and his colleagues on a croissant crawl (their new favorite, Leila tells PEOPLE, was the supersized croissant from Philippe Conticini) on July 30.

"That was fun," Al says, also teasing an live on-set appearance from Leila on July 31.

Says the veteran weather presenter, "When you raise your kids, it's nice to see them grow up and be accomplished. My oldest [Courtney] is a chef and just had a baby and our youngest [Nick] is in college and they're good kids. Having her here is just the frosting on [top]."

It's been "really great" for Leila too, who was on the Today set during PEOPLE's visit. Leila notes that she got the opportunity to work with her father in Tokyo when she served as a production runner for Peacock's 2020 Summer Games primetime show. The experience, she says, was vastly different because of COVID-19.

This time around, "It's been just really nice having kind of a reunion with the family and getting to see events," Leila, 25, says. "And I think Paris really rose to the occasion."

It's been some time since Leila's first Olympics with Al in Salt Lake City in 2002.

"She was 3 years old, but my mom came too, so it was great," Al reflects. "[My kids have] fallen in love with [the Games]. They've grown up going to the Olympics."
