There’s a lot that’s NSFW about After We Collided, the sequel to 2019’s teen romance flick After, from the young characters’ ever-simmering sexual tension to their illicit workplace hookups and one very steamy shower scene.
But it’s not just the film’s raunchy moments that make After We Collided so risqué. It’s also peppered with expletives courtesy resident bad boy Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and his fondness for dropping the F-bomb when referring to handsome newcomer Trevor (Dylan Sprouse).
Hero, 22, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that he rather relished his free pass to swear at his co-star on-set — after all, Trevor does interfere with Hardin’s plan to win back his ex-flame, Tessa (Josephine Langford).
“Any opportunity to say ‘f***ing Trevor,’ I’m down, I’ll take it,” he admits during an exclusive chat with castmates Dylan, 28, and Aussie-born Jo.
Fans of the best-selling novels by Anna Todd will no doubt recognise Trevor’s sweary nickname and delight in the knowledge that it made it into the big-screen adaptation.
“It’s a line from the book that Hardin likes to use quite a lot, it’s just super punchy and relevant,” Hero explains.
“It’s such a loved, iconic line,” Jo adds.
Hero and Dylan’s on-screen rivalry certainly didn’t spill over into real life, with the pair becoming ‘fast friends’ after meeting pre-shoot at a fashion event in Italy.
Jo and Dylan’s introduction was slightly more impromptu, with the former Disney star surprising his new colleague while she was catching up on some chores between takes.
“I met Jo when she was doing laundry in the set room, she was very surprised,” he reveals.
All three stars are thankful that production for After We Collided wrapped before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and are navigating the film’s ‘virtual’ press tour with aplomb.
But conducting interviews from home via video call isn’t without its risks, as dog-owner Dylan well knows. His pooch Magnus — “he’s as loud as a jet plane,” Dylan laughs — popped up during an earlier chat with ET Canada but sadly didn’t make a cameo this time around.
Outside of promoting the film, the cast has been keeping busy during quarantine with Jo picking up an interesting new skill and Dylan celebrating a very low-key ‘iso’ birthday.
All this time spent indoors begs the question: if coronavirus hit the ‘After’ world, would ‘Hessa’ (aka Hardin and Tessa) survive lockdown together?
To find out Hero and Jo’s surprising answer you’ll have to watch the video above.
After We Collided hits Aussie cinemas on Thursday, September 10.
