Abbie Chatfield recreates viral Bachelor moment on FBoy Island: 'So iconic'

Arguably one of the most iconic moments from The Bachelor Australia franchise was when Abbie Chatfield appeared to misunderstand astrophysicist Matt Agnew’s profession and told him that she’s a Gemini. The clip, which she’s since revealed was heavily edited to splice the two comments together, went viral around the world and was even shared by celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Sarah Hyland on social media.

Fast forward five years and Abbie has gone from being a laughing stock to one of the most famous media personalities in Australia, having won I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2021, presented her own radio show, and appeared as a panellist on The Masked Singer. The 29-year-old is also the host of the BINGE reality series FBoy Island Australia which is currently in its second season - but it’s clear she hasn’t forgotten where she’s come from.

During this week’s episode of FBoy Island, Abbie surprised viewers when she hilarious recreated her very first appearance on reality TV and wore an identical blue dress and gold jewellery to her “I’m a Gemini” scene. She also had her hair styled in similar curls and accessorised with a large sash that read ‘Runner Up’ next to a cartoon rose, which she tells Yahoo Lifestyle was all very carefully planned.

“It’s not the same dress but it’s as close as we could get,” she reveals. “We were originally going to do it for the opener of season one but it didn’t work out.

“It wasn’t my idea but we were trying to find ways to incorporate it. The EPs were very happy to have found a reason because one of the EPs was on Bachelor with me!”

Matt Agnew's hilarious response to recreated scene

While the hilarious outfit choice was never directly addressed on FBoy Island, the show’s official Instagram account posted a video of Abbie recreating her viral moment alongside a microphone stand acting as Matt Agnew.

“Is @drmattagnew an FBoy?” they captioned the post.

The video was quickly flooded with comments from fans applauding the re-enactment, including Matt Agnew himself who wrote: “Who’s this clown in the suit?”

“I remember that so well, but had completely forgotten that this was Australia’s introduction to THE @abbiechatfield,” one follower said, while another added, “When we were first introduced to the queen herself!! I still remember the ads”.

“Died when they showed you in this in the ep,” someone else shared, followed by a different user who commented, “This is so iconic”.

“This still lives rent-free in my head,” a fan remarked, with another writing, “Omg Abbie this is so full circle AH I CAN’T honestly we loved you since the start queen!”.

The show also posted an Instagram Story of Abbie showing off her outfit with the caption: “Just a regular, casual outfit with no significance.”

“Wow. I feel really calm and not anxious or triggered at all,” she said sarcastically. “I love being in this dress and this outfit and this bangle and these earrings. Wow, it’s so much fun.
